Meet the Maker

Hi, I’m Ally.

If you’ve taken a loop through Bluebird Mercantile recently, there’s a good chance you’ve spotted me tucked in the back, working away in my cozy hat-making studio. If you ever find yourself nearby, feel free to pop in, say hello and see what’s on the table that day.

A note on the road that led here.

Lucky Cowboy did not arrive all at once. It came together slowly, shaped by years of creating, moving, learning, and trusting what felt true, even when it felt uncertain. I’ve always believed that the path reveals itself one step at a time.

I grew up in a home where creativity was encouraged, where making things with your hands was a way of understanding the world. From a young age, I was drawn to anything tactile and expressive. Sewing, painting, ceramics, jewelry, you name it. Creating became my language long before I ever imagined it becoming my work.

My journey took me far from where it began. From a small town in coastal North Carolina, I moved to New York City chasing creativity and possibility. It was there that I met my husband, and together we eventually followed the pull west to Colorado. The wide-open landscapes, the quiet, and the sense of space changed me. I learned to slow down. To listen. To notice what truly mattered.

Eventually, the road carried us again, this time to the coast. Laguna Beach felt different. Grounded and expansive at the same time. Creative, but unpretentious. It felt like a place where something magical could take root.

It was in this beautiful community that I decided to take the leap.

So here I am, almost a year into creating the life I once only imagined. None of this would be possible without you. If you’re reading this, watching from afar, stopping by the studio, or quietly cheering me on, thank you.

In February of 2025, Lucky Cowboy found its physical home inside Bluebird Mercantile. Opening the studio there felt like a new beginning and a return to myself. It became a space where stories, craftsmanship and connection could live under one roof. A place to slow down, to create with intention and to welcome others into the process.

Lucky Cowboy is not just about hats. It’s about listening closely. About shaping something by hand and allowing it to reflect the person who wears it. Every piece is made with care, shaped with purpose and meant to become part of someone’s story.

I’m endlessly grateful for the road that led here. For the turns I didn’t plan. For the places that changed me. For the chance to create something honest and lasting.

This is just the beginning.
